Overview
Primarily responsible for producing accurate and comprehensive technical documentation, user documentation, marketing or training documentation (involved in reviewing, updating and writing) for target audiences; including help files, user guides, release notes, training manuals, and system manuals. Does not supervise other employees and requires minimal guidance/supervision. Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and exercises judgment within generally defined practices/policies or common documentation guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities / Typical Duties
People
• Works on medium to large project as part of a cross-functional team comprising of subject matter experts (SME), documentation specialist, business analysts, technical specialist, functional managers, developers and project leads.
Process
• Participates in significant communication with cross-functional teams on expectations, documentation scope and content structure.
• Gathers information by studying existing material and interviewing SME.
• Collaborates with the appropriate team members to review and revise or update current documentation.
Technical
• Produces documentation and conducts verification reviews with SMES for accuracy and completeness.
• Revises work products as required and carries out documentation testing on members of target audience.
• Provides assistance to team members engaged in producing related project deliverables.
• Writes, edits, indexes or revises a variety of technical and user documentation.
Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and / or Experience
• Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Major/concentration in English or Technical Communications a plus
• Experience in writing, in clear and concise language, such technical documents as online help files, procedure manuals, service manuals, and related training documentation concerned with software application development efforts
• At least 4+ years experience writing documentation and related materials for users of a commercial software application
• Superior written and oral communication skills, including mastery of the English language
• Business Analyst and Testing skills a plus
Skills and Competencies
• A self-starter and quick learner with excellent written and oral communication skills and an eye for pertinent detail.
• Excellent interviewing, note-taking and documentation skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power point) and experienced/familiar with tools used to auto-generate technical documentation such as ROBOHelp, Adobe, and screen capture tools.
• Ability to complete assigned deliverables within strict timelines and work well in a fast-paced project environment.
• Strong team-building and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to create and convey technical material in a concise and effective manner, and produce documents that are easy to keep up-to-date. Such as end-user software guide and training manuals.
• Ability to review, create and analyze/interpret common technical documents, reports, and user guides. Ability to respond to common inquiries or request for information.
• Ability to create "from-scratch" documentation, write communication, articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
